Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne viral illness caused by the dengue virus. It is transmitted primarily by Aedes mosquitoes, notably Aedes aegypti. It is prevalent in tropical and subtropical regions, including parts of Southeast Asia, the Pacific Islands, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. This condition requires immediate medical attention and often hospitalization.

Management focuses on drinking 30ml juice of the leaves of the papaya tree Carica papaya early morning on an empty stomach, which is largely followed in India and has proven to be a curative practice. Supportive care includes maintaining proper hydration, monitoring for warning signs of severe dengue.

Prevention is key. No vaccine is available for all serotypes. Measures include avoiding mosquito bites by using insect repellent, fumigants such as Benzoin, and long-sleeved clothing. removing standing water where mosquitoes lay eggs also eliminates mosquito breeding sites. Public health initiatives also focus on mosquito control to reduce the risk of dengue outbreaks.
