Typhoid fever is caused by Salmonella typhi bacteria. Typhoid fever was uncommon in clean households but now, seems to have gripped even them. Here are some tips on how to successfully prevent typhoid.
What is the Salmonella Typhi Bacteria
Typhoid fever is a fever that occurs in the intestines of us humans. It is caused by infection with Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi. It is transmitted by the ingestion of water or food contaminated with infected feces (20) and is a public health problem.
Here are some ways to prevent typhoid fever
Wash your hands
Frequent hand-washing in hot, soapy water is the best way to protect yourself from typhoid infection. Wash before eating or preparing food and after using the toilet. Carry an alcohol-based hand sanitiser for times when water isn’t available.
Avoid drinking untreated water.
Contaminated drinking water is a particular problem that may pose more risk of catching a typhoid fever. For that reason, drink boiled and cooled or warm water. Avoid water with ice to prevent typhoid.
Wash raw fruits and vegetables thoroughly
Because raw produce may have been washed in contaminated water, wash them thoroughly in hot water or saline water. Avoid greens such as lettuce and palak.
Choose hot foods
Avoid food that’s stored or served at room temperature. Freshly prepared steaming hot foods are best such as idli. And although there’s no guarantee that meals served at the finest restaurants are safe, it’s best to avoid eating outside.
